Duane N. Moore
Duane N. Moore is an associate attorney in the firm and is a registered patent attorney. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Maryland in 1998, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland in 2002.
Mr. Moore is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Moore currently concentrates on patent application preparation and prosecution in the chemical, electrical, mechanical, business methods, computer, and software related arts. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Moore worked as an attorney in Atlanta, Georgia, focusing on all aspects of intellectual property, including prosecution, licensing, litigation, due diligence, and opinion writing. Mr. Moore represented clients in all aspects of patent prosecution in the mechanical, chemical, software and business method arts, including conducting client interviews to identify intellectual property issues, preparing patentability opinions, and prosecuting patents applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Moore also has extensive experience in intellectual property licensing and litigation, including drafting pleadings, interviewing witnesses and experts, drafting and reviewing discovery requests and responses, assisting in trial and hearing preparation, participating in motions practice before state and federal courts, assisting in settlement negotiations, drafting settlement agreements, and assisting in alternative dispute resolution. He has also conducted trademark and copyright prosecution.
During law school, Mr. Moore interned at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he reviewed patent applications having advanced and complex prosecutions to resolve legal, technical and procedural issues. His internship also focused on drafting Office Actions, Petition Decisions, Protest Decisions, Supplemental Answers, Notices of Abandonment, and other official USPTO documents. Mr. Moore also attended patent examiner training for restriction practice, Patent Cooperation Treaty applications, and the changes in patent law due to the enactment of the American Inventors Protection Act of 1999.
